Step 1 for skinning Niels:
Those skins are clearly my 506th skins, on which you've edited a patch and a sign on the helmet. The first thing you usually do beforehand, is ask the author if you may do so. I usually don't mind, but in this case that skin isn't officially released yet, therefore I don't want anyone to use it for anything else than playtesting it. Feel free to use 'em when they're finished and officially released, as long as you give credits ![]()

What patch is that guy wearing? That is no airborne division patch.
Dear lord, that has to be the worse skinning job I have ever seen. You left the same normal mapping which shows the airborne tab as clear as day and then you used a regular brush to paint over the shoulder. Last edited by Fozzy The Bear : 02-08-2010 at 05:03 AM. |

I am sorry, but that comment is immature and unnecessary. Even if they are, it is a rude, obnoxious and immature thing to say. Besides he is making the skins 1st time so give him a brake Fozzy,I'm sure he doesn't know what normal mapping is... |

When did the 101st start wearing their battalion patch on their left shoulder? http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/501/501.html This is the unit patch you would be seeing on the 501st or any of their other battalions in the division. ![]() The patch you have on the skin is the battalion insignia that would be worn on the right side of their hats (forgot the name of the hat). ![]() Quote:
I love how you were probably thinking the same thing that I wrote, but since I said something it gave you an opportunity to take the moral high ground. Last edited by Fozzy The Bear : 02-08-2010 at 09:32 PM. |

I think you mean regiment fozzy? But he is right... yeah.. they'd wear their divisional patch, not the regimental one.
So 501st PIR = 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" and would carry that patch... on their left shoulder.

Yes, you are right about the regiment. Most unit insignia you find on uniforms (non battle dress uniforms) are battalion or regiment/brigade. All the different branches in the US Army use different words for basically the same thing. Example: When I went to basic at Fort Sill, they use the word battery instead of company. They even said oosha instead of hooha, which both sound gay as hell when you say it. And no, regiment or battalion insignia is not worn on the left or right shoulder. Only divisional (1ID, 4ID, 1CD, 101AB, 13th AB Corps, etc...) or non divisional units (13th COSCOM and other pog units) wear shoulder patches, except for tabs. If you ever been in the army, you would know AR 670-1 is your friend. Now look at the b/w image I posted and you will see the regimental insignia on his cap to the left. That's a pocket patch, they were worn on the pocket of a jacket you'd wear in garrison or leave. It's actually a big-fucking-patch, look at a pic of a real one, they're huge. Just leave the 101 patch, I mean, shit, if you wanna get super-hardcore-badass, make a skin set and call it "Battle of the Bulge, the beginning" and leave the patch off.

Hmm, always thought you were british.. and you joined the army? Anyways, here's a photo of a guy from the 501st: ...and basically what handy said is right. As for the 504th PIR for instance though, they wore the 504th PIR Regimental Patch, not the 1st BCT insignia
